The Design

The country that the text talks about has specific characteristics. The basic element that defines it (her, as a feminine identity is attributed to the specific country, in Greek – the country is a feminine noun) is the earth, her soil. It is like the blood of a body; the ground of her people, the key ingredient. There are points within the text that the writer uses the earth as a symbolism to describe the weightiness of the country. 

For this play, I created a dirty, earthy, grounded, introspective, primitive design.

Soil was the material for this design, which I introduced to the rehearsals. The actors embodied the soil each one by her way. Apart from identity, soil symbolizes the eternal cycle of life and death. We are born from it and we die in it; the body and the material in absolute harmony.

This is a speculative project.

Those are the sketches for the bodies in movements for a dance piece in ROH.
The piece had to do with desire and the yearning of the lover, so I wanted parts of the body to be visible and create a sensation of nudity without being naked. Practically I wanted the material (lycra) to hug the body and leave the dancers free to move as they were naked.

"Migratory Species"

This is a video I made for the Ma Scenography Exhibition CSSD 2012 for my project "Migratory Species". It talks about the displacement and alienation I experienced in London. Its dark, suffocating and claustrophobic atmosphere, symbolizes the difficulty and the hardness of the city. The sounds are irritating as it is a composition from sounds I took from the city, slowly adding them together in a city soundscape.(sound edited by Cecilia Calderon)

The Project

My suggestion for Pierrot Lunaire Opera is a live ART event, taking place in the ground floor of the BARGEHOUSE, where the audience can take part in a live painting performanc, while listeling to the opera sang live by an opera singer, who is drifting inside the space.

The project is based on the use of overhead projectors and painting materials, which I used as a response to the opera of Shoenberg to create the following video. The audience is called to use the materials provided listening to the same musc. Live feed cameras would capture the projections on the wall and be projected on the Facades of the BARGEHOUSE as well as stills of their works will be taken and printed as ephemeral works of ART. At the end the KALEIDOSCOPE video will be projected on the big wall of the exhibition space as a tribute to the audience's creations.

Introduce : I M A movinG engiNE

My name is Iro Micheli. I could be a robot or a cyborg...not sure anymore.
Those times are fast and rough and if you stay still you will probably break.
That's why I try to move, change my points of view, swift the camera when
things wont work. I could be an engine that is fed with my thoughts and it's
mechanism works with my feelings.

My work derives from my internal self, subconscious and dark sometimes,
sweet and playful some others. Body is consumed and psyche is driven by
forces that we don't realize. Through my practice I aim to reverse that and
find the links directly to what has constructed me and swift it towards a new
me a different way of thinking a different way of living.

This is my blog with some of my works and some of my thoughts I would
